Kate Griffin
Intercultural Trainer & Communication Coach

The goal of my work is to help foster understanding and find commonality between people from different backgrounds. I seek to share tools and expertise that my clients can use to better to be able to overcome cultural and communication barriers.

A griffin is a “hybrid” creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Not only is it my last name, but it is a fitting metaphor for many expats and internationals like myself. Living and working in other countries has changed me. I found a way to move forward where I can still be myself, but also continue to allow my changing environments to continuously grow and develop who I am as combination of all my experiences.

My Story

From my own experience, I know the process of moving abroad and working with other cultures isn’t always easy. I am equipped to help you navigate what can sometimes feel like uncharted territory. I have been an intercultural trainer and communication coach for more than 13 years and have studied and lived in the UK, US and in Germany. During that time, I have worked with people of over 30 different nationalities across a wide range of industries. I am well-traveled and have been to over 45 countries across 5 continents, giving me an opportunity to continuously develop my skills, explore new places cultures and to consistently step out of my comfort zone.

Prior to arriving in Germany at the end of 2009, I was awarded my Bachelors of Communication at Western Illinois University and the University of Leeds. I then managed a language school for a German-based company in Bournemouth before studying International Studies at DePaul University. Following that, I worked in London at an intercultural training company before moving to Germany. In 2020, I naturalized and am now a German and American dual citizen.

My knowledge and experiences allow me to help and support my clients as needed. Whether it is my role as a trainer, a coach, a facilitator or some combination of all, I strive to help people adapt to the changes and challenges in their lives and to thrive. My ability to put people at ease through empathy, humor and understanding supports them to get out of their comfort zone while they are taking the needed steps to reach their potential. Together through reflection, changing perspectives, and shifting paradigms, we find a rewarding way forward that works well for them as they successfully reach their goals.
